Students and Staff who test positive for COVID-19:
   1. Students and staff who have a mild case of COVID-19 and who have been fever free for 24 hours without medication may return to school or work after 5 days of isolation, provided they wear a properly fitting mask for days 6 through 10 while monitoring for symptoms.
    2. Students or staff who are unable to wear a properly fitting mask will remain at home and isolate for 10 days.
     3. Students or staff who are still sick and whose symptoms persist longer than 5 days will isolate for 10 days or longer until their symptoms resolve before returning to school or work.
Quarantine Guidelines for HLCS:
     1. Household close contacts: Students who live in the same house with a sibling or family member who tests positive for COVID-19 will need to quarantine at home for a minimum of five days, but will be allowed to return to school for days 6-10 of their quarantine period provided they wear a properly fitting mask while at school and monitor for symptoms.
Exceptions: Students who are fully vaccinated or who have recovered from COVID-19 within the last 90 days do not need to quarantine. They will be allowed to attend school while masking for 10 days.
      2. Close contacts at school: Students who have recently been identified as being a close contact to a COVID positive person while at school and are currently quarantined may return to school on Monday, January 17 if they are symptom free. Rapid testing is not required, however any student who wishes to take a rapid test upon returning to school should report to the office and request a test.
       3. Close Contact Investigations: HLCS will not be conducting close contact
investigations, nor will the district notify parents that their student may have been exposed to a COVID positive individual. Unless a student is a household close contact to a family member, HLCS will no longer be requiring students to quarantine.

 

 

The Covid-19 Grant Program has been extended to include GSRP, Head Start, Adult Education and Young Adult Special Education Teachers. Houghton Lake Area Public Schools will update this dashboard each time a probable or confirmed case is verified by the Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD). HLCS and CMDHD will work together to conduct contact tracing to identify an notify any person in close contact with a confirmed case that occurs at school or a school event.

Houghton Lake Area Public Schools will continue the practice of notifying a school community of a positive case in their school building using th school's listserv. Please note that a student or staff member in quarantine does not equal a positive case. Individuals may be in quarantine due to being in close contact with someone that was positive from outside the school setting.
